26 Promotions – Peoria, AZ – (April 2, 2019) – TJ “Hollywood” Wyman racked up another pair of top tens this past weekend with the Askrens Trucking/Flexi Flyer IMCA Northern Sport Mods and Arizona Differential IMCA Modifieds at Canyon Speedway Park for the Sunset Showdown.
The action would begin on Friday night with the Askrens Trucking/Flexi Flyer IMCA Northern Sport Mods. Wyman rolled off from the pole in his heat race but encountered issues early by nearly spinning his No. 00AZ car. Wyman would gather it back up to drive back up to the 2nd position.
The second-place heat race finish would be good enough to earn Wyman the outside of the front row for the main event.
“We just had a rough main event,” explained Wyman. “The first lap someone drove us up the track, and after that, it was just a crash fest, but we ended up 9th out of 26 cars after coming from the back.”
The difficult night led to an equally difficult decision for Wyman and his race team to make.
“We made a decision the next morning to move up to an IMCA Modified,” said Wyman.
His first heat with the mighty IMCA Modified Series would see Wyman cross the finish line in the 5th position after starting further back and battling to earn track position through traffic.
Finishing fifth in heat race 2 would lime Wyman up tenth for the start of the 20-lap feature.
“I was up to 5th in the beginning of the feature,” said Wyman. “Then the long runs killed me because I had a 602 in my car and the mods had a 604. They were getting faster every lap and we fell back to 10th.”
There was a chance to turn things around for Wyman, though, when a caution waved with just six laps to go. On the restart, Wyman was able to battle back up to 7th before getting tangled up in a wreck on the following restart, breaking a tie rod and causing his front bumper to become a mangled piece of metal laying on the clay oval racing surface.
Even with the damage, the result was still good enough to capture Wyman’s second top ten finish of the weekend in two different classes at Canyon Speedway Park’s Sunset Showdown.
“Overall it was a great weekend and I am looking forward to driving a modified the rest of the season,” concluded Wyman.
TJ Wyman would like to thank Fuga Energy, Allscapes Installation Services Inc, the Funk Family, Silbercom Trucking, Speedway Lettering, Tommy’s Garage, Dirt Worx Contracting, AZ Tubes and Hoses, MDM Accounting Services, Happy Home Realtor, Ashcraft Motorsports, Wild Wolf Kettle Korn, Floor Depot, and Industrial Machinery Services for their support.
