Inside Line Promotions – DODGE CITY, Kan. (Oct. 23, 2018) – Brian Brown earned his sixth top five of the season with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series last Saturday during the Outlaw Boot Hill Showdown hosted by Dodge City Raceway Park.

It was a strong end to a busy weekend for Brown, who kicked off the doubleheader on Friday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., during the FVP Platinum Battery Shootout.

“We started off decent,” he said. “We were third quick in hot laps, but that can be fools gold sometimes because the track can be slimy for the first couple of groups. We went back out to qualify and were ninth quick. The track was narrow at that point. We didn’t get going very good on the start of the heat and let a car get by, which lost us a row for the feature.”

Brown’s fourth-place finish in a heat race lined him up 12th for the A Main.

“I rode around and got tired of following guys so I moved around,” he said. “Every time I did I got passed. We had a good battle with Kerry Madsen and Brent Marks just outside the top 10. It’s just too bad that wasn’t for the win. I’m disappointed we didn’t run better.”

Brown finished 13th and his team ventured to Dodge City Raceway Park on Saturday for the weekend finale. He qualified ninth quickest overall and placed fourth in a heat race to line up on the outside of the sixth row in the main event for the second straight night.

“It was pretty much the exact same (as the night before),” he said. “Chad came up with some good ideas to get our car free enough where we could maneuver. We got a good initial start and a couple of good double-file restarts and the next thing you know we were in the hunt. We were able to get a top five, which is a great run for us.”

Brown maneuvered to a fifth-place result, which was the second-most cars passed in the feature.

“I wouldn’t say our momentum has been the best,” he said. “We have good car speed, but don’t get the finishes we need. That’s the good thing about our sport. It’s not like you play on Sunday and have all week to think about the good or bad things you did. You race at Lakeside, get out of there and get to Dodge City at 5 in the morning. You get a couple of hours of sleep and then you’re at it trying to improve.”

He will return to World of Outlaws action this Friday and Saturday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., for the Tuscarora 50.

“We’ve been pretty good there in the past,” he said. “We ran second to Lance (Dewease) after leading the Night before the 50 last year. We feel we have a good opportunity to do well. Our engines are really, really good. When you’re at a place that big and fast good engines never hurt. Hopefully we can get qualified and the rest of it is just racing.”

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT – Weld Wheels

Founded in a Kansas City garage in 1967, WELD was the result of a relentless pursuit of speed, durability and safety. Highly successful sprint car driver Greg Weld was unable to find the right combination of strength and performance in wheels that were being made so he decided to make his own.

Fifty years later, a lot has changed, but the values of WELD remain. Its production facility is less than a mile from Pappy Weld’s Speed Shop where Greg’s race cars were built and his passion for performance continues to fuel the company today. Innovation lives on in its industry leading products and relentless pursuit of speed and strength. For more information, visit http://www.WeldWheels.com.

“I think we have 160-plus wins and every single win I’ve had is with Weld Wheels,” Brown said. “They are not only the lightest wheel, but the most durable. We switched to the black wheel this year and everybody seems to like the switch. Weld Wheels has been a long-term supporter and we appreciate them.”
