Inside Line Promotions – MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 2, 2018) – Brian Brown recorded a pair of top-10 finishes during the Champion Racing Oil National Open last weekend at Williams Grove Speedway.

Approximately 50 drivers invaded the half-mile oval during the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series doubleheader. The action began on Friday with Brown qualifying eighth quickest in his group. He then advanced from third to second place in a heat race to make a dash.

“We were able to race our way in and get a dash spot, which is critical,” he said. “Then we passed a car in the dash to gain another row.”

Brown picked up a position to finish fourth in a dash, which lined him up on the inside of the fourth row for the A Main.

“We were hovering around that sixth or seventh spot,” he said. “I made a couple of mistakes and we were back as far as 12th or 13th at one point. I got over the cushion and four or five went by. I felt like we had something to work with after Friday night though.”

Brown followed a ninth-place result by drawing the highest pill on Saturday. That made him go out last for qualifying, but it didn’t matter as Brown set quick time in his group and he was sixth quickest overall. A runner-up result in a heat race locked Brown into a dash for the second straight night. This time he maneuvered from fourth to second place to line up on the outside of the second row for the $56,000-to-win A Main.

“In the dash I felt like that was the best I’d ever been there,” he said. “I really felt like at that point our expectations kind of changed. I thought, ‘Gosh, we’re just as fast as the good guys. We have a shot to win this thing.’ We ran inside the top five for 35 to 38 laps. We just weren’t as good as we needed to be as the race wore on.”

Brown ran third for the first 10 laps before spending much of the race in fourth. He lost a couple of positions late before scoring a sixth-place result, which was his seventh consecutive top 10 and 32nd top 10 of the season.

“To come out of there with a sixth-place finish when there’s 50 good race car drivers there is an accomplishment,” he said. “I’m proud of our whole team and our partners in Casey’s and FVP for allowing us to go out there and run those races. We felt we could go in there and compete. If we went in there and could run inside the top 10 and maybe sneak out a top five that’d be a solid weekend and we were pretty much on point with that. Chad gave me a great car that I could maneuver and put in different spots.”

Brown is scheduled to return to action this Friday at Williams Grove Speedway before tackling the Dirt Classic on Saturday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa.

“We were there at the Dirt Classic last year and it was awesome,” he said. “The pay and what they do for the race and fans is awesome. It’s an event we had hoped to run a couple of weeks ago so we’re excited to stick around and run that.”
