Shyla Ernst wins in dominating fashion at Airport Raceway

Garden CIty, Kan (Airport-Raceway.Com) - Night one of the Border War Showdown definitely did not disappoint. With over 50 race teams making the haul to Garden City Friday night.

With day time temperatures reaching a high of 103 degrees, the decision was made early in the day that the official race time would be pushed back an hour to 8:30 PM local time.

Opening the night, it was the Go- Kart division tackling the mini track for 10 laps. In the end it was a last lap pass on the back stretch by Briggs Williams to win.

Second division to the track was the Jr Sprint Jr cars and it was Caizer McElroy taking the checkered flag.

The Sportsman class was a thriller to say the least despite only 2 cars being left in the closing laps. Jaden Holder and Shea Ricke were battling for the win on the final lap when the two cars touched, sending Holder into a barrel roll frenzy into the turn 3 wall. Holder walked away from the accident and was further cleared by Finney County EMS. Shea Ricke claimed the checkered flag after defending Ross Essenburg on the Green, White, Checkered.

The Restrictor class brought in a group of new and familiar faces Friday night. And a familiar name went back to victory lane. The 15 lap feature saw Zayden Vasquez at the front from flag to flag. Vasquez picked up his 3rd Restrictor win this season, and his 2nd all time at Airport Raceway.

The A-Class Winged micros was an eventful race bringing in 20 intense laps. Shyla Ernst started on the pole position and played defense better than any division one volleyball blocker.

Chase Spicola would challenge for the top spot for a good 5 laps before getting loose in the exit of turn 4, causing the Page Construction number 12C, back to 5th. Ernst would hold off 15 other competitors for 4 restarts later claiming her 3rd win of the season, and her 1st at Airport Raceway.
