Inside Line Promotions – JACKSON, Minn. (June 9, 2018) – Donny Schatz and Kaleb Johnson both produced impressive performances by maneuvering through the field en route to marquee wins on Saturday night at Jackson Motorplex during the 40th annual AGCO Jackson Nationals presented by ASI Contracting.

Schatz rallied from seventh to pocket the $40,000 top prize for claiming the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series A Main and the emotion of the moment wasn’t lost in Victory Lane.

“Hot damn, we just won the Jackson Nationals,” he exclaimed.

Jason Johnson, who won the two preliminary rounds on Friday and Saturday afternoon, led the first 17 laps of the 40-lap race. Schatz advanced into fourth place on Lap 2 and he was running second on Lap 4. Johnson entered traffic on Lap 8 and Schatz stayed within striking distance before using the bottom groove to his advantage in turns three and four just before the midpoint of the A Main.

Schatz took over the top spot on Lap 18. He survived one final restart with 15 laps remaining and a late rally from Johnson in traffic.

“The car was awesome,” Schatz said. “We had a really good balance. It was fun to get by (Johnson). He’s been pretty good the last couple of races.”

Johnson finished second by less than seven tenths of a second.

“It was a solid weekend,” he said. “When (Schatz) got by was when the rubber started coming in.”

Brian Brown rounded out the podium after having a great battle with fourth-place finisher David Gravel throughout the race.

“Hats off to Gregg (Bakker) and everybody who works on the track,” Brown said. “It’s an honor to finish on the podium.”

Logan Schuchart earned a fifth-place result.

Kaeding, Gravel, Schatz and Jason Sides each won a heat race. Johnson was victorious in the dash and Justin Henderson picked up the win in the Last Chance Showdown.

The World of Outlaws show wasn’t the only spectacle at Jackson Motorplex. Kaleb Johnson capitalized on a late-race restart to become the fourth different winner in four Heartland Steel RaceSaver sprint cars presented by Wyffels Hybrids main events this season.

Colin Smith led the first 11 laps of the 20-lap feature before Trevor Serbus drove into the top spot on Lap 12. Serbus built a solid lead before he spun in traffic with four laps remaining. Serbus was able to keep his car rolling as the yellow flag was waved. That allowed him to keep his position at the front of the pack, but Johnson pounced on the restart.

Johnson stuck the bottom groove with Serbus glued to the cushion. The duo raced nearly side by side for most of the final four laps before Johnson crossed the finish line first by less than three tenths of a second.

“I know we weren’t the show, but this one feels pretty dang neat coming from 15th,” he said.

Serbus finished in the runner-up position with Brant O’Banion rallying from 12th to a third-place outing. Brady Forbrook placed fourth and Jake Martens charged from 17th to round out the top five.

Elliot Amdahl, Dusty Ballenger and Brandon Bosma were the heat race winners.

Jackson Motorplex will showcase a doubleheader next weekend with Midwest Sprint Touring Series 360 sprint cars, Heartland Steel RaceSaver sprint cars presented by Wyffels Hybrids and NSL non-wing sprint cars presented by HitchDoc competing on Friday before Saturday’s Bank Midwest Night featuring IMCA a mods, IMCA sport mods, IMCA stock cars, IMCA hobby stocks and IMCA sport compacts.
