Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 10, 2019) – Sammy Swindell captured a top-10 finish last Saturday at Knoxville Raceway, where he made a tune-up visit to get ready for this weekend’s Brownells Big Guns Bash.

Swindell and the Thone Motorsports team made a decision late in the week to venture to the half-mile oval and it paid off.

“Earlier in the week the weather looked bad so we didn’t want to go all the way over there and get rained out,” he said. “Then it turned around later in the week. We went up there and thought we’d give it a try.”

Swindell qualified 10th quickest overall. He then placed fifth in a heat race to rank 11th in overall points, which lined him up on the inside of the sixth row for the A Main.

“We went out for practice and had a little issue,” he said. “When we were at Eldora Speedway we were kind of loose and down. We were a bit better at Mansfield Motor Speedway, but the track was pretty rough. We thought we’d try to go a step further at Knoxville. The car would drive hard, but it’d go from pushing and then would get loose. It was bouncing around back and forth on the tires. I wanted to make some other changes and we didn’t get caught up. In the heat the guy in front of me didn’t take off real well. I tried to go underneath him and when I did that I was in the marbles. We lost quite a few spots right there.

“We went a little different direction for the feature. We were able to pass a couple of cars. It was better, but not where I needed to be. We got held up by a couple of guys early, but made up that ground and gained a couple of positions. A 20-lap feature goes pretty quickly.”

Swindell’s ninth-place finish was his fourth top 10 of the season and it gives the team a direction prior to this weekend’s World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader at the track.

“I’ve got a lot of good ideas and got some feedback on some things that are positive and some that are negative,” he said. “I know we have the stuff to do it. It’s just if we can get it all arranged to work together. From what I’ve done for the three races at Eldora, Mansfield and last Saturday I’ve got a good idea. We’ll address is this week and when I meet them back up there we’ll make some adjustments.”
