Inside Line Promotions – FORT WORTH, Texas (April 10, 2017) – Sammy Swindell capped the Tony Stewart presents the Texas Sprint Car Nationals by recording a top-10 finish last Saturday at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.

“We had a lot of little things crop up during the weekend,” he said. “Some of it was the draw in the heat, where we started and who we started around. It can really mix up things pretty easy.”

The Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event began on Friday, when Swindell and the A.G. Rains owned team finished where they started – third – in a heat race. Swindell then placed fifth in a qualifier before he won a B Main to transfer into the main event.

Unfortunately, the A Main was short lived for Swindell, whose car broke a tierod bolt at the start of the race. He was unable to finish and was credited with a 21st-place finish.

Saturday’s event finale fared better for Swindell, who placed sixth in both a heat race and a qualifier to again be relegated to a B Main. Once again, he won the consolation race to transfer into the main event.

“It was pretty good in the B Main,” he said. “We were in the last heat and then the qualifier and the second B Main and right into the A main so we didn’t have a chance to do a lot of things. We steadily made progress until the end. You had to run the top of the track pretty much all the way around.”

Swindell advanced from 18th to seventh place in the main event before a late red flag.

“We had that last red and I don’t know if we had a tire go down, but it definitely wasn’t as good after the race restarted as it was before,” he said. “Without that last red we should have been a few spots up, but that’s just the way it goes.”

Swindell closed the night with a ninth-place result, which marked his second top 10 in the last three races with the series.

He and Rains will return to action this Saturday at Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

“You can get rolling around there,” Swindell said. “You have to carry as much speed as you can through the corners because it’s so far around. It’s a faster place and I always like those.”

He won a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series race at the track in April 2012.
