Pokorski Motorsports completes rock solid MSA twinbill

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 13, 2019 – After searching to find consistency through the majority of the 2019 season, Paul Pokorski and his Pokorski Motorsports team put together two solid performances in a Midwest Sprint Car Association doubleheader weekend at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 10 and Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. on Sunday, Aug. 11.

Pokorski was among 29 PDTR 360 Sprint Car drivers checked in to compete at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, Aug. 10. After starting on the pole in the fourth 10-lap heat race, Pokorski settled into second on the opening lap behind rookie Tyler Davis. The 2014 MSA Masters Series champion closed in on Davis on lap 6 before contacting an infield tire in turn two on lap 7, which caused him to lose ground on the leader en route to a second-place finish and a berth in the A main.

After the passing points invert, Pokorski started 11th in the 25-lap A main. Following red flag on the opening lap involving Josh Teunissen, Ben Schmidt, Bill Taylor and Chris Clayton, Pokorski lined up eighth when the race resumed.

Pokorski passed Shane Wenninger on lap 9 to take over seventh in the running order. After losing two spots following a lap 17 caution, Pokorski worked his way back into eighth by slipping past Lance Fassbender with an outside move in turn four on lap 23. Pokorski held on to place eighth and record his 10th top-10 A-main finish of the season in a race won by Jim Melis.

“Saturday night at Plymouth was good,” Pokorski said. “We moved forward a little, but not as much as I would have liked to, of course. I did feel like we were continuing to make some gains with the car.”

On Sunday, Aug. 11, Pokorski was among 23 entrants in the third and final MSA event of the 2019 season at Angell Park Speedway.

After a scratch in the first MSA 10-lap heat race, Pokorski started seventh before working his way into sixth by passing Doug Wondra in turn three on lap 2. Five laps later, Pokorski moved in to pressure Shane Wenninger for fifth, but eventually had to settle for sixth at the finish.

Pokorski started 15th in the 25-lap A main and advanced to 11th after a red flag restart on lap 6 following a three-car incident in turn three involving leader Tony Wondra, second-place Adam Miller and Nick Daywalt.

On lap 7, Pokorski powered around Shane Wenninger to move into 10th in turn three. Three laps later, Pokorski worked past Tyler Davis into ninth. After a lap 11 caution, Pokorski restarted seventh before passing Tim Haddy for sixth on lap 12.

After the fourth caution of the race on lap 13, Pokorski continued his charge to the front by moving around Bill Taylor into fifth place on lap 13. As the laps wound down, Pokorski reeled in Lance Fassbender and appeared ready to make a move before Fassbender clipped an infield tire and spun in turn one to bring out the fifth and final caution of the race on lap 23.

Pokorski restarted fourth and held the position over the final two laps to earn his fourth top-five and 11th top-10 A-main finish of the 2019 season in a race won by Travis Arenz.

The 27th-year driver was pleased with the performance at a track where he has struggled in the past.

“On Sunday night at Angel Park, we started where we left of the night before,” Pokorski said. “We looked at our notes from the last few times we were there and tweaked some things. We battled some bugs with the fuel system, but got those figured out by feature time. The car was really good, and it felt really good to move forward like that and pass cars. I'm hoping we can continue to build and finish the season strong.”

This Saturday, Aug. 17, the team will return to The Plymouth Dirt Track for Autograph Night, Past Champions Night at Kids’ Backpack Night. Hot laps begin at 5:30 p.m. with racing scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
