Mark Dobmeier - Two Win Weekend!

Mark Dobmeier – Two Win Weekend!

Lunstra Motorsports and Mark Dobmeier PR

July 11, 2013 – The Independence weekend brought the Lunstra Motorsports team to the track all over the Upper Midwest and led to a couple of victories at River Cities Speedway and another one at the Knoxville Raceway. Meanwhile, the World of Outlaws show at Huset’s Speedway didn’t go according to plan to start the week off.

The biggest crowd in the history of Huset’s led to a sell out with 3-time NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart in attendance for the annual Outlaw show on July 3. 35 cars signed in for the race which saw the Sioux Falls Ford Eagle time in at 11th quick, leading to a front row starting spot for Mark’s heat. The only caution in heat race action led to a double-file restart while running second and ended up with Dobmeier getting shuffled back on the restart as WoO point leader Daryn Pittman was able to squeeze by on the restart for the important second dash position. Dobmeier would start and finish in 15th for the ‘A’ on a heavy, single-file track.

“That restart was going to make-or-break our night,” Dobmeier admitted. “The bottom was the place to be and we were stuck starting on the outside. I tried getting to the bottom entering turn one and just slipped up a bit to allow Daryn to get by. That’s why he’s the point leader because he needed to get in the dash just like us by finishing second.”

After a day off to celebrate the Fourth of July, it was off to Mark’s hometown track for the Mid-Season Championship even though it was only the second weekly 410 race of the season. The Big Trucks by Jimco #13 swept the night after winning his heat race and the feature. The win was his second of the year at RCS, and the 96th of his career there. It came after a little luck saw Mark draw the pole.

“The car ran great all night and it was fun to actually get to race again at home,” Dobmeier said. “We held off (Austin) Pierce and were able to pick up the win.”

The long overnight haul led the team to Knoxville for Twin Features Night. “Dynamite” would time in 16th out of the 30 cars signed in. The heat race saw another exciting battle between the Senske & Son ride and Nationwide driver Kyle Larson with the latter grabbing the heat race win. The first feature was lined up straight off time trials so Dobmeier started 14th on the grid and held onto 10th after a tangle occurred in the middle of the race.

That finish led to the Dammer Trucking #13 to start eighth and Mark shot into second at the start of the feature. He would take the point a lap later and opened up a huge lead on the rest of the field before a caution would fly. Larson fought his way up to second before having a mechanical failure and wrecking. The last restart had Dobmeier staying up on his patented high side to hold off a charging Bronson Maeschen for his third win in as many weeks at the famed half-mile, his 12th of his career there, and the ninth on the 2013 season for the Lunstra team.

“We had a great start there on the second feature,” Dobmeier said. “We were gone and didn’t need any of those late cautions to have everyone else bunch up, but we were able to hang on again to pick another win. It sounds like Kyle was coming and it would have been fun to battle him again but he had some issues there with a few to go.

“It was still a great weekend for our team even though we wish Huset’s would have gone a little different,” he said. “We’re continuing to make progress as we get closer and closer to the Nationals.”

The scheduled $5,000 to win race at Huset’s the following was called after time trials due to approaching storms. The make-up for that show is now going to happen the Sunday of Labor Day weekend on September 1.

The upcoming week sees the usual 1,400 mile road trip occurring with Friday night in Grand Forks, Saturday at Knoxville, and wrapping the weekend up Sunday at Huset’s for a tune-up before the All Star Circuit of Champions show a week later.
