Mark Dobmeier – Two Wins & Outlaws on Tap!

June 8, 2012 – The Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports #13 nearly had a clean sweep of the win column the previous week, coming up one spot short at Knoxville after leading most of the race. Wins occurred at their home tracks of River Cities Speedway and Huset’s Speedway. The team is looking forward to getting ready for the World of Outlaws the upcoming weekend.

Last Friday saw Dobmeier take win number five up in Grand Forks, North Dakota as he continued his undefeated streak at the track in 2012. The win came from the ninth position as it did the week before. The Senske & Son Transfer J&J is steamrolling into the upcoming Outlaw show on June 15.

“Right now, we are rolling pretty well up there, and are looking forward to the Outlaws coming up to our turf next weekend,” Dobmeier says. “It has been an amazing start winning every race up there and couldn’t ask for much more.”

The overnight haul saw the team sign in at Knoxville Raceway among the 27 410 sprinters in the prelude to an Outlaw show the following week. A disappointing 12th place result in time trials would eventually turn into a surprise blessing as it led to a front row starting position in the night’s ‘A’ Feature after a large inversion was drawn.

Dobmeier would get out to a straightaway-plus lead until the caution came with two laps to go. A bunch of heavy hitters were ready to pounce on him for the green-white-checkered finish. Unfortunately for Dobs, he had blistered the right rear and would fade to a fourth place finish at the checkers.

“We just used up the tire too much during the race and didn’t have anything left for the last restart,” he says. “It would have been great to pick up a win, but sometimes they just fall that way against you. We need to work on our qualifying down there, otherwise we are bad-fast the rest of the night.”

Sunday night at Huset’s in Brandon, South Dakota was up next on the docket and it saw “Dynamite” sweep the entire night – he was fastest in time trials, won his heat from the sixth position, and then won the feature from the fourth position. He would also take back the points lead after the night’s sweep.
Dobmeier would abide his time until four laps to go in the feature before taking over the top spot from Terry McCarl with a run off the bottom of turn four. The win was his first of the year at the track and win #45 of his career at historic bullring.

“Quite frankly, I almost put it the fence a couple of times early in the race,” Dobmeier admits. “I was able to calm down and then was able to come forward to the front. We found a little rubber off the bottom of four late and were able to skate by for the win. This has been an amazing start to the year and we hope to continue it into this week with the Outlaws coming to the area.”

You will be able to find the team at the Clay County Fairgrounds Speedway tonight (Friday), and Saturday at the Knoxville Raceway as Dobmeier tries to win his second career ‘A’ Main feature with the WoO to match his one preliminary win last year during the Knoxville Nationals. Then the team will close the weekend out at Huset’s on Sunday night.

2012 STATS: 16 Starts, 6 Wins, 12 Top Fives, 14 Top Tens, 6 Heat Race Wins, 1 Fast Time, Average Finish of 4.438, 66 Cars Passed in A Main Action, and a Plus/Minus of 56 positions.
