Chick Overcomes Qualifying Woes to Charge to Top Five at Winchester

Inside Line Promotions – WINCHESTER, Ind. (Sept. 13, 2017) – Mandy Chick rallied to earn her fourth top-five finish of the season 10 days ago at Winchester Speedway, which hosted the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour during the World Stock Car Festival.

“I had been studying and preparing for this race for a couple of weeks,” she said. “I’d been in the race shop helping, practicing on the high-banked tracks on iRacing and watching videos to learn the grooves of the race track. We set goals for our team at the beginning of the season and we set out to accomplish those goals that weekend at Winchester.”

A clutch failure occurred when Chick left pit lane for her qualifying run and did not allow Chick to make a lap during qualifying. That started her in the 15th position out of 16 cars during the Sept. 3 main event.

“Qualifying is something we intended to work on and improve throughout the season,” she said. “It definitely makes it tough when we run into issues like we did, but I had confidence in myself, my team and my car and that this was just a minor setback. I knew my crew could give me a good enough car to work our way toward the front and overcome this obstacle of the night.

“We want to thank all of the JEGS/CRA teams who helped us get the car back together and even offered us parts to complete the work. This is an awesome outpouring of support and you wouldn’t just get that in any series.”

Chick gradually made her way through the field during the feature and she started reeling in the leaders toward the end of the race. After 100 circuits around the high-banked, half-mile oval, Chick ended with a fifth-place result.

“I couldn’t be happier with the finish with the way the night started off,” she said. “We worked hard to overcome our issues in qualifying and it definitely feels like this is a well-earned finish from everyone’s standpoint. I can’t thank my team enough for this one. Finishing well and earning our podium and top-five finishes was another goal we set forth and we are steadily making that goal achievable week in and week out.”

Chick’s effort also earned her the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

“I am so happy that my team and I earned this award during the race and I can’t wait until we top that with a win,” she said. “I will continue working hard for that first pro late model win.”

Chick will return to action Sept. 23-24 at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour.
