Putting A Bow On 2011

After struggling through much of the 2011 season, the Legend race team put together a few strong performances to cap off the 2011 racing season. Scattered motor problems, setbacks suffered, and the usual interruptions from mother nature made it difficult for the second year team to find any consistency. At times throughout the season, Jared and the #9 car were extremely fast. We just couldn’t seem to put together a full night of good racing. By the last month of the season the team seemed to be hitting on all cylinders once again. Jared displayed some of the best driving of his young career as he competed for the win at St. Croix Valley Raceway on September 19. He and fellow sophomore Andy Jones put on a whale of a show for fans as they diced it up at the front of the field for the first 15 laps of the feature. Neither competitor had any interest in running second in this race. Unfortunately, Jared contacted the wall trying to defend his lead. Soon after Andy Jones suffered motor problems and both were relegated to the pits. The UMSS season wrapped up with a double header at Elko Speedway October 14 and 15. On hand was the strongest field of UMSS sprint cars ever assembled. With a field of 27 entering the pits both nights, Jared brought the #9 home with respectable finishes of 11th on night one and 8th on night number two. The legend race team would like to commend the Elko Speedway staff for the great job they did preparing the track surface. It was racy and fast both nights. The feature on Saturday night took place after a steady 1 hour rain. We really appreciate all the work done by the Elko crew, allowing us to get the race in. It completed a fun weekend and provided the fans that stuck around with an awesome show!
The end of the season provided the spark we needed to get fired up for 2012. This season provided some learning experiences we didn’t encounter during our rookie season but the team is still working well together during this growth period. We are already working on getting ready for next year. The UMSS competition has gotten more intense in each of its first three years and there is no sign of that changing. Congratulations to Jerry Richert Jr. on his first championship and to Kevin Bradwell for capturing the inaugural traditional series crown. We also want to congratulate co-rookies of the year, Anna Kouba and Chad Patterson. We know this is a tough sport to break into. Great Job! Thanks again to Ron Bernhagen, UMSS director, and the rest of his staff for all the work they do in giving us a place to do what we love; race sprint cars!
